Clinicas Medicas San Jose

On April 7, 2011 From Houses to Homes (FHTH), dedicated the San Jose Medical Clinic, also known as Clinicas Medicas San Jose. The clinic is located in Pastores, Guatemala and will serve all of the families that FHTH has built for, all students and families of the Cambiando Vidas School, and the people of Pastores. As improving healthcare is critical to the mission of FHTH, we will continue to welcome anyone who comes to the clinic in need of services.

St. Joseph’s Medical Clinic is beautifully constructed, with the goal of helping individuals achieve their highest levels of health through outpatient care, preventative care and health education, while respecting their cultural traditions. Dr. Ana Louisa Ortiz, General Practitioner and Dr. Velvet Lopez, Dentist, will serve as our primary staff.

Since our opening date on April 11, 2011 we've seen 10,007 patients coming mostly from the Pastores community. Our most serious cases involve diarrhea and pneumonia amongst our children and diabetes amongst our adults. We have just begun a program to promote the clinic with From Houses to Homes families and we anticipate an increase in attendance as the communities begin to realize that they have a place to go for their health needs.

Mrs. Suzy Moran, benefactor of the Cambiando Vidas school in Pastores, built the San Jose Medical Clinic in memory of her late son, J. Brian Moran II on land donated by Jim Tierney. New Jersey volunteers Judy Baker and Jessica Sibona, who are both nurses and mothers, proposed and advocated for the clinic after witnessing that access to prenatal and child healthcare in Santa Maria de Jesus and the surrounding communities is limited and insufficient.
